Pastor

Are you a pastor considering a sabbatical or career transition?

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to continue using your pastoral skills, we invite you to explore our Bible Translation Facilitator role. Whether you’re taking a one-year sabbatical or seeking a new direction, this opportunity allows you to stay engaged in ministry in a fresh and impactful way.

While faith-based missions may seem daunting, many pastors find it deeply rewarding—especially with the support of believers, including members of your own congregation, who may be eager to join your prayer and financial support team.

Role Overview: Bible Translation Facilitator & Advisor

TBT is seeking men and women willing to serve as Bible translation facilitators and advisors. This role is designed to support national church leaders in translating Scripture into their own minority languages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitation & Discipleship:
    • Be a team member in team Bible translation sessions (which give opportunity for impromptu discipleship & Bible studies).
    • Help national translators discuss, revise, and team-check Bible verses they have previously drafted before the checking session.
    • As needed serve as an exegesis, dictionary, and research assistant. (When there is a need teach English word meanings and show things like how to use the Greek interlinear in Paratext to team members.)
  • Technical Support:
    • Assist with Paratext software during translation sessions (We can teach you this software).
    • Provide occasional basic computer help as needed to villagers because some translators have never used a computer.
  • Practical Support (“Washing Feet” Ministry): Ensure translators have:
    • Bus fares and translation stipends and funds to get to the clinic when needed. Care for team funds and minor record keeping.
    • Help the team make decisions and organize work flow to enable their participation and team success. (You will learn a ton about their world view as you also share how you as a westerner would do this task).

Minority language translations often fail or stall without this kind of practical assistance. Think of the facilitator as the hub of a bicycle wheel, keeping all parts aligned and moving together.

TBT’s Philosophy

Unlike other agencies that require expats to be fully trained linguist-translators, TBT emphasizes facilitation. We aim for nationals to lead the translation work, with expats serving as supportive advisors, not primary translators.

We have openings for you to serve in an adventure alongside national teams translating their Bibles. See our website. We welcome your questions.
